7m830 Basic Techniques for Urban Modeling and Planning

MSc course
period:1.Sem A (Qua 1)
credits:3 SP in ECTS
Objective is to gain knowledge of models and techniques for land use planning.
When designing urban plans (in particular for residential areas) it is important to have insight in the needs for different kinds of housing in the near future. It is also important to have insight in the behaviour and preferences of people for whom these plans are made. For this purpose, this course addresses methods for estimating future housing needs and predicting travel behaviour of people for the performance of various activities (e.g. shopping). Of course the trafic network and the location of the facilities (e.g. shopping centres) play an important role. A number of models and techniques for land use planning are discussed, such as forecasting of population and housing needs, spatial interaction, spatial choice behaviour, network analysis, (al)location and optimisation.
