Jakob Beetz
The general title of my PhD project is "Multi Agent Systems for Collaborative Design". The idea is to facilitate the use of external knowledge from various resources and domains for the use in a building design project. At design time, the desinger has to take many external factors into consideration that affect the qualtity and performance of the building- especially in the early phases of the desing. Unfortunatly though, much of these addtional factors are not accesible or take a long time to be calculated.
Instead of using a traditional 'monolithic' approach, the use of Multi Agent Systems (MAS) facilitate the semi-automated distribuition and retrival of computational resources in a network structure. These distributed resources, such as product and building law information, number crunching services and structured domain knowledge can be accessed by indipendendly acting software units that act on behalf of a user (or another agent, sub-contracting a task).
